Don Lindberg

Donald Edward Lindberg, born 27 August 1938, in Rolla, North Dakota. He passed away on 29 July 2011 in Fargo, North Dakota, with his family at his side. He lived in Mansfield, Texas, with his wife Toni, but came back to Fargo for his grand-daughter's funeral.

The dash between the dates of being born and death covers 72 years. This space is too little to tell of all of his accomplishes and contributions. His grandparents had migrated from Sweden and homesteaded a farm in Rolette County, where Don had spent many of his summers.

In 1956, Don became an Eagle Scout. He was also a Deputy with his father, Runo, and mother Ruth Lindberg. Runo Lindberg was Sheriff of Rolla, North Dakota. While attending college at Bottineau [and later at Minot State], he met and married Sharon Bateson.

He was drafted into the Army in 1961. He served at Fort Ord in California as a Medic. In 1967, he left the Army and went to work at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, working there for 41 years. He worked many areas in North Dakota; he stayed the longest at Des Lacs Wildlife Refuge near Kenmare, North Dakota, until 1973. He moved to Lake View, Oregon, and then, a year later, to Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1982, he moved to Anchorage, Alaska, becoming a Budget and Finance Officer until his retirement in May, 2003.

Don stayed busy, working on scale model guns, military weapons, tanks and boats. He was a member of the Anchorage Scale Modeling Club, where he had many close friends. He also had many friends at Hobby Craft and at Anchorage House of Hobbies in Anchorage, Alaska.

Don moved from Anchorage, in May of 2011, to Mansfield, Texas, to be with his first love, his wife, Toni M Moore. They were together again after 35 years apart. After a month, Don found out he had cancer. Even though he was sick, his plans where to go home to North Dakota to see his family. He returned, sooner than expected, for the funeral of his granddaughter, Jada Lindberg-Ferris. He died a week later.

He is survived by his wife, Toni Moore, and two children. His son, Steven, wife Kami Lindberg and their children Josh, Ashley and Shawna Lindberg and grand-children, live in Wasilla, Alaska. His daughter, Kelly, (Jada's Mother) husband, Brett Radebaugh and son, Nat Greseth, live in Hillsboro, North Dakota. There are also two step-children. Step-daughter Pamela, husband, Jimmie Barnhill, their children, Thomas and Matt Gilmer, also, Connor Barnhill are in Arlington, Texas. Step-son Michael, wife, Shelley and their children, Logan, Ian and Sierra Sherman, are in Grand Prairie, Texas. Don also had a very close friend, Dave Neff, whom he thought of as a son, in Anchorage, Alaska.

There was a grave side military service in Rolla, North Dakota, with the family. He was buried next to his mother, Ruth and father, Runo Lindberg; grandmother, Martha and grandfather, August Lindberg.

The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nursing staff of the Sanford Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, for all their support and personal care. What a blessing they are!
